Regional seminar on social dialogue for local authorities and professional associations

Solid Beirut 7,8 march 2023

In the framework of the SOLiD II project  aimed at fostering social dialogue in the southern Mediterranean, the Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), in collaboration with BUSINESSMED and ANND, organized a regional symposium titled “The Role of Local Communities and Professional Associations in Strengthening Social Dialogue,”. The event took place in Beirut, Lebanon, on March 7 and 8, 2023, and delved into critical economic and social issues concerning local authorities, professional associations, and economic and social councils.

Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan were represented, collectively acknowledging the essential role the social partner entities have in solidifying and institutionalizing social dialogue in the region.

The workshops conducted during the event generated diverse recommendations. Plans were formulated to raise awareness about the significance of social dialogue and broaden its application to encompass all segments of society. The effective monitoring and evaluation of social dialogue outcomes at local, national, and regional levels were also subjects of extensive discussion.

The ongoing meetings, crucial for the SOLID project, will persist in fostering a thorough and collaborative discussion with the primary goal of identifying vital priorities to include in necessary reforms and implementing them through robust action plans. The ultimate objective is to fortify social dialogue practices and institutions, with a focus on implementing reforms successfully and sustainably.
