Within the SOLiD II project framework, the Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), in collaboration with the General Confederation of Algerian Enterprises (CGEA), the Mediterranean Confederation of Confederations of Enterprises (BUSINESSMED), and the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), organized a multilateral meeting in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, on October 7, 2023.
The day started with an introduction to the SOLiD II project, highlighting its role in fostering social dialogue in the Mediterranean region, particularly in Algeria. Subsequently, the 12 components of the charter developed within the project's framework were presented, initiating a discussion involving all stakeholders. The aim was to amend the charter to align with the countries integrated into the project's second phase (Algeria, Lebanon, Palestine) by strengthening the status of social dialogue. The discussion aimed at enriching the charter , involving key stakeholders such as employers' organizations, unions, non-governmental organizations, economic and social committees, public authorities, and professional associations.
In the third session, the meeting extensively discussed models for a just transition towards sustainable economies and societies in Algeria. Emphasis was placed on just transition pathways and employer commitment, addressing the country's energy transitions and associated challenges in investment, financing, and employment. The discussion also delved into good practices for achieving a green economy in Algeria, highlighting the role of social dialogue in promoting green transformation and contributing to national efforts.
