Interview with Isidor Boix (Coordinator - Industria-CCOO)

My name is Isidor Boix, I am a Collaborator of the International Secretariat of the Federation of Industry of the Trade Union Confederation of Workers' Commissions of Spain (Industria-CCOO). I was formerly the General Coordinator of IndustriALL Global Union of the Global Framework Agreement (GFA) with INDITEX and previously responsible for FITEQA-CCOO and Industria-CCOO of International Trade Union Action, particularly focusing on supply chains of multinational companies and Indigenous Peoples in areas of hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation.

My primary objective was to contribute the trade union experience in the field of CSR and Human Rights, particularly the experience with the Inditex GFA. Unfortunately, this objective could not be fulfilled as it was not planned in the program and no way was found to integrate it. There was a disproportionate amount of time dedicated to institutional visits and visits to the Industrial Free Zone and the two companies (clothing and food), as well as the few union meetings with Jordanian unionism, migrant workers (particularly Syrians), and Southeast Asian workers in Jordanian factories.

One particularly innovative and effective practice related to social dialogue in Jordan is the Inditex GFA.

My interactions with Jordanian companies, institutions, and social partners were evidently useful and significantly influenced my understanding of social dialogue in a different cultural, social, and economic context.

One key challenge observed was the insufficient interest from both trade unions and businesses in the experiences of CSR and Human Rights commitments, and the necessity to develop them within the framework of social dialogue in the Mediterranean and in each country.

The SOLiD experience is already of interest, especially if it is coordinated with other more developed social dialogue experiences, particularly everything related to Human Rights in the supply chains of European multinational companies.

I plan to maintain the relationships and knowledge exchange initiated during this visit through the review to be carried out on July 12 and its distribution, including responses to the concerns raised here.

As I mentioned before, the most interesting moment was the visit to the Industrial Free Zone. The most impactful aspect was the approach to the genocide by the State of Israel on the Palestinian People, as well as the complexity of an effective response from both the Arab peoples and people around the world.
