In the framework of SOLiD project, a National Capacity Development Workshop on sustainable development goals and the role of social dialogue in their implementation was organized by the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) in Tunis in collaboration with the Social Sciences Forum and Tunisia Plus on 21 and 22 December 2017.
The workshop involved the active participation of several NGOs and Trade Union representatives from Tunisia and covered pertinent issues in the sustainable development agenda. It also involved increasing capacity related to Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, through a training manual on SDGs produced by ANND.
Following an introduction of sustainable development and the global agenda, including the presentation of the manual geared towards NGOs, TUs, and MPs, the discussion focused on the situation in Tunisia. It began with a discussion on the localization of the Agenda, looking into opportunities and challenges, followed by a discussion on thematic priorities related to the country.
The second day looked into follow-up and evaluation mechanisms, focusing on the role of societal dialogue in closing gaps related to the implementation of 2030 Agenda in Tunisia, the role of corruption and inequality, and a discussion on a “dignity index” to measure such issues. The workshop was concluded by working groups to discuss practical solutions.
